The role:
As a Data Manager within the IT department of Pharming Group N.V., you are responsible for aligning the data strategy, priorities, and initiatives with business objectives, as well as overseeing and developing the organization’s data governance policy. You empower the business to manage its own data while ensuring data quality and security. You play a crucial role in structuring, analyzing, and optimizing data used in clinical trials, manufacturing processes, and regulatory reporting. Additionally, you are responsible for overall data integrity and optimization within ERP systems (SAP) and CRM systems (Veeva).

You work closely with internal stakeholders such as IT, R&D, compliance, quality control, and the IT Data Architect to ensure efficient and secure data storage and processing. You also lead the Data Steward Meetings, safeguard the quality of all data definitions, and oversee analyses of data consistency and quality to ensure reliable and accurate datasets are available.


Key Responsibilities:


Data Governance

  • Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical laws and regulations regarding data management.
  • Implement data governance processes, including data ownership.
  • Chair the Data Governance Committee to align business, IT, and compliance on data standards and quality.
  • Collaborate with compliance and quality departments to support audits and inspections.


Data Management & Structure

  • Develop and implement data management policies that comply with regulations (GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GDPR).
  • Oversee data integrity, consistency, and quality within IT systems. Structure end-to-end data objects across business processes, including master data, transactional data, and historical data.
  • Set up and develop the metadata management model to store and manage all necessary metadata (storage & naming of master data, data stewards & owners, tables, attributes, etc.).
  • Chair a data definition board to ensure uniformity and quality of all data definitions and standards within the organization.
  • Monitor data movements across systems to ensure visibility and transparency of data flows.


Data & Quality Control

  • Chair the data quality board to resolve cross-process data issues.
  • Monitor data consistency and quality within systems such as SAP and Veeva.
  • Oversee the development of data validation rules and controls to safeguard data quality.
  • Supervise the integration of data from various sources and systems for reporting purposes.
  • Manage and optimize master data and metadata standards.


Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate and provide training to data stewards and data owners to enable them to fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Work closely with the IT Data Architect to design and implement scalable and future-proof data architectures.
  • Maintain and improve IT solutions for data management, such as LIMS, ERP, and EDC systems.
  • Coordinate system integrations and data migration projects.
  • Collaborate with software developers and external vendors on data solutions.


Required Skills & Qualifications


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in data management within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a role requiring stakeholder management.


Technical Skills

  • Experience and knowledge in applying DAMA DMBoK principles.
  • Experience with SAP (S/4HANA, ECC) and ERP master data management.
  • Experience with Veeva CRM and data management within commercial and medical departments.
  • Knowledge of database systems (SQL, Oracle, NoSQL) and data platforms.
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Python, R, or BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experience with data validation and implementing data quality controls.
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure and cloud solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP).


Regulatory & Compliance

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations (GxP, FDA, EMA) and data security.
  • Experience with validation of IT systems in a regulated environment.


Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills to influence and engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to bridge IT and business.
  • Leadership skills to chair formal meetings and drive data initiatives.
  • Team player with a proactive attitude and attention to detail.
