Your Work Environment

As an Indirect Tax Manager, you will be part of Pharming’s international Tax team and report directly to the Head of Tax. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing, managing, and further developing our global indirect tax function.

 

You will ensure the timely and accurate execution of VAT, GST, and Sales & Use Tax compliance obligations across our international operations. In addition, you will play an important role in strengthening tax governance, implementing robust processes and controls, and supporting automation and digital transformation initiatives.

 

Working closely with Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Digital & Technology teams, as well as external tax advisors, customs specialists, auditors, and tax authorities, you will have the opportunity to combine compliance, technology, process improvement, and business partnering in a dynamic international biotech environment.

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and analytically strong Indirect Tax Manager to join our team. The position is based in Leiden, with hybrid working opportunities available.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate Pharming’s global VAT/GST/Sales & Use Tax compliance activities, ensuring timely and accurate filings, payments, and reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Prepare, review, and oversee indirect tax filings, including VAT/GST returns, EC Sales Listings, Intrastat declarations, and related compliance obligations.
  • Monitor VAT positions, refund claims, tax assessments, and correspondence with tax authorities, while ensuring a consistent and technically robust tax treatment across the Group.
  • Track legislative developments, including ViDA and digital reporting requirements, and translate regulatory changes into practical business solutions.
  • Design, implement, and maintain indirect tax governance frameworks, internal controls, and SOX-related compliance processes.
  • Drive automation, process improvements, and digital transformation initiatives, acting as the indirect tax subject matter expert for SAP, Coupa, e-invoicing, and ERP tax configuration.
  • Support customs and trade compliance activities, including import VAT, customs valuation, duty optimization, and supply chain-related initiatives.
  • Partner with Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain, and the Head of Tax to provide practical indirect tax advice, support strategic projects, and contribute to the continued development of Pharming’s global tax function.

 

What You Bring

  • Master’s degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant indirect tax experience, ideally gained in a combination of Big Four, tax advisory, and in-house multinational environments;
  • Strong knowledge of VAT, GST, Sales & Use Tax, and international compliance requirements;
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP, as well as tax technology solutions, e-invoicing, and digital reporting platforms;
  • Experience with SOX and/or internal control frameworks;
  • Experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other multinational industries is considered an advantage;
  • Excellent command of English; Dutch and other languages are a plus;
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously;
  • A proactive, hands-on approach combined with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
