Summary

 

Pharming is seeking a proactive and hands-on U.S. Tax Manager to oversee all aspects of tax compliance, tax accounting, and SOX controls for its U.S. operations. This role ensures accurate and timely federal, state, and local tax filings, high-quality tax reporting under U.S. GAAP, and the maintenance of strong internal controls.

The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic biotech environment, brings strong U.S. tax technical expertise and is comfortable collaborating within cross-functional and global teams. The role also provides key management and support to the Head of Tax on ad‑hoc projects, tax planning initiatives and broader strategic business support.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • U.S. Tax Compliance
    • Manage and coordinate all federal, state, and local corporate income tax filings for U.S. legal entities.
    • Maintain a U.S. tax compliance calendar, ensuring all filing and payment deadlines are met.
    • Review federal and state tax returns prepared by external advisors to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with Group tax policies.
    • Oversee U.S. sales & use tax, property tax, and other applicable indirect tax filings.
    • Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure high-quality deliverables and alignment with Pharming's global tax strategy.
  • SOX & Internal Controls
    • Maintain all SOX-related tax controls, including design, documentation, testing coordination, and remediation.
    • Ensure tax-related controls are fully embedded within local business processes and well understood by control owners.
    • Collaborate with Internal Audit, Finance, and external auditors during SOX testing cycles and year-end processes.
  • Tax Accounting & Reporting (U.S. GAAP)
    • Perform quarterly U.S. tax provisioning and review annual tax provisioning under U.S. GAAP, including current and deferred taxes.
    • Prepare and support Effective Tax Rate (ETR) analyses and tax forecasts for U.S. operations.
    • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of U.S. tax balances in the financial statements and maintain high-quality supporting documentation.
    • Work closely with external advisors and the Group Finance team during monthly, quarterly and annual closing cycles.
  • Transfer Pricing & Intercompany Support
    • Maintain U.S. transfer pricing documentation in accordance with IRS requirements (Sec. 482).
    • Assist with intercompany charge calculations, true-ups, and reconciliations.
    • Ensure the accurate reflection of intercompany transactions in local filings and financial reporting.
  • Ad-hoc projects
    • Work closely with the Head of Tax on key initiatives, including planning analyses, evaluation of available incentives, handling of tax authority interactions (IRS and state), business expansions, supply chain discussions, commercial decisions, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Tax, Accounting or Finance required; Master's degree preferred.
  • CPA, EA or Master of Tax strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, ideally in a mix of Tax Firm/Big 4 and in-house roles.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. corporate income tax, US GAAP tax accounting (ASC740) with knowledge of TP concepts.
  • Experience with SOX or other internal control frameworks.
  • Exposure to pharma/biotech or other multinational environments is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross functional teams.
  • Proactive, hands on, and comfortable in a fast growing, evolving organization.

Salary Range

 

Pharming takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s work experience, training, and education, as well as the scope of the role, complexity, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level.

 

The base salary range for this position is from $140,000 to $195,000 per year.
